Your One Week System To Explosive Personal Growth!

I seem to lost reckoning on how many times I’ve read and heard of show biz marriages degenerating almost left and right. Not that I care (and admittedly I don’t), it seems foolhardy that we see movie and TV stars as flawless people, living the fairytale life of affluence and glamor. I suppose we all have to stop sticking our heads in the clouds and face reality some day.There are many ways to lose your feeling of self-esteem despite of how trivial it could get. But whatever happens, we should all try not to lose our own sense of self. There are no perfect lives despite the celebrity we see on the tube everyday.

So what does it take to be a cut above the rest? Here are some of the things you can think and improve on that should be adequate for a week worth of thought and practice.
1. Know Your Purpose.

Are you wandering through life with little direction – hoping that you’ll find happiness, health and prosperity? Identify your life purpose or mission statement and you will have your own unique compass that will lead you to your truth north every time. Without knowing the sense of direction you want to go how will you ever plan on getting there?

This may seem tricky at first when you see yourself to be in a tight or even dead end position in life. But there’s always that little loophole to turn things around and you can make a big difference to yourself. You just have to look, just a little, and you will see it.

2. Know Your Values.

What do you value most? Make a list of your top 5 values. Some examples are security, freedom, family, spiritual development, learning. As you set your goals for 2008 – test your goals against your priorities. Are they close? If the goal doesn’t align with any of your top five values – you may want to reconsider it or revise it otherwise your life seems to go in two different directions. You aren’t gaining anything if that is the case.

3. Know Your Needs.

Unmet needs can keep you from living authentically. Take care of yourself. Do you have a need to be acknowledged, to be right, to be in control, to be loved? There are tons of folks who live their lives without attaining any of their dreams and most of them end up being stressed or depressed and just plain miserable. You’re not going to let that happen, right? List your top five needs and get them met before it’s too late! You have to get out of the rut.

4. Know Your Passions.

You know who you are and what you truly enjoy in life, don’t you? Obstacles like doubt and lack of enthusiasm may hinder you at first, but will not derail your chance to develop into the person you ought to be if you give yourself just half a chance. Begin a plan to develop those things that you are passionate about. Don’t just let them sit on the back burner doing nothing.

5. Live Life From The Inside Out.

Increase your awareness of your inner wisdom by frequently reflecting in silence. Does that sound corny? Well, how about this? Commune with nature. Breathe deeply to quiet your distracted mind. Do you think it only works for people who want to be monks? For most of us in modern day society it’s hard to even find the peace and quiet we want even in our own home. What we are on the outside is a direct reflection of what it is we are on the inside. Think about it.

6. Honor Your Strengths.

What are your positive traits? What distinctive talents do you have? Don’t say you don’t have any! You are unique. That’s talent number one. List three – if you get stuck, ask those closest to you to help identify them. People aren’t seeing you from the fishbowl that you see yourself in. They see your talents everyday even if you aren’t aware of them yourself. Are you imaginative, witty, good with your hands,have a sense of humor, can write, etc.? Find ways to Assert your authentic self through your strengths. You can increase your self-confidence when you can share what you know to others.

7. Serve Others.

When you live realistically, you may find that you develop an interconnected feeling of being. When you are true to who you are, living your purpose and giving of your talents to the world around you, you give back in service what you came to share with others -your spirit – your essence, who it is you really are. The bonuses for sharing your gift with those near to you is genuinely rewarding, much more if it were to be the eyes of a stranger who can appreciate what you have done for them.

Self-improvement is indeed one type of work that is worth it. It shouldn’t always be within the confines of an office building, or conceivably in the four corners of your own room. The difference lies inside ourselves and how much we want to change for the better. Try these tips for a week. See for yourself what you can accomplish with just a little desire. Stuttering Cure Tips

These are two questions that I would have certainly answered with a yes when I was a bit younger. I was one of the unfortunate children who grew up with a stutter or as some people call it, a stammer. Various people tried to make me believe that there was not a cure for stuttering. I did listen to their thoughts but would never accept what they were telling me. Lower Body Strength Training for Wrestling

Fitting a heavy lower body strength workout into your strength training program is usually the last thing on a wrestler’s mind, especially in season. With all the practicing and running to make weight, who can blame them?! However, finding time to get in at least one lower body day a week in season is crucial for success. A lot of parents try to convince me their kids don’t need it. They think that their kid’s legs must be strong from all the running and practicing. They couldn’t be further from the truth. Running to sweat weight off is not going to give you the strength to finish takedowns, the speed to get in on your opponents legs, or the power to return your opponent to the mat after they have stood up from the bottom. Making lower body strength training one of your top priorities in your wrestling training program will help you score more takedowns, improve the effectiveness of your sprawls, increase the success of your standups, and ultimately, help you win more matches. Now that you know what stronger legs can do, let’s go into the top four best exercises for developing them.
Box Squats

The squat is arguably the best exercise a wrestler can perform. I have all my wrestlers box squat for two big reasons. The first reason is that by sitting and pausing on a box and then squatting up forces the wrestler to overcome a static position. This closely resembles stalemate situations during a match. The second reason is that every rep is consistently deep. Squatting to a box takes all the guess work out of whether or not the wrestler went deep enough on their squats. The first step to box squatting is building a box. You can use a bench, stack plates, use aerobic steps, or anything else you can find. I make mine out of wood and use ¾” plywood to adjust the height. You may be so lucky as to find an adjustable box in the gym you workout at. The most important thing is that when you are sitting on the box your thighs are parallel to the floor. After your box is built you’re ready to start squatting. Get under the bar and walk back until you’re close enough to the box where you can sit on it only when you drive your hips back and down. The width of your stance is up to you but be sure to angle your toes out slightly. Initiate the squat from the hips, not the knees. Force your hips back, drive your knees out and sit down to the box in a controlled manner. Do not drop to the box. Make sure your chest is kept tall throughout and your lower back stays flat. Now that you’re at the bottom of the squat it’s time to stand back up. Force your chest up, drive your hips up off the box and return to the standing position. When you’re done walk forward until the bar hits the rack and lower yourself from there until the bar rests on the hooks.

Deadlifts

The deadlift is one of two other exercises that come to mind that may challenge the squat in terms of the best exercise for a wrestler. The deadlift is a little easier to setup and perform but it requires an incredible amount of strength in the hips, back, and hands. There are two ways to deadlift- conventional and sumo. I will detail the sumo deadlift because that tends to be the favorite among the wrestlers that I work with. The stance for a sumo deadlift is going to be wider than a conventional deadlift, and it will resemble the stance of a sumo wrestler…go figure. Your stance should be wider than your hips with your toes angled out like you have them when you squat. Take an alternate grip (one palm facing you the other facing away from you) where your hands are directly under your shoulders. With your grip inside your knees you will be able to prevent your knees from being forced together by your arms during the lift. Sink your hips down and get your chest up tall and your low back flat. Lift the bar off the ground while maintaining a flat low back until you are completely standing. Make sure your arms stay straight and relaxed throughout the lift. Lower the bar and repeat.

Lunges

The lunge is a great builder of single leg lower body strength. Single leg strength is needed throughout wrestling, especially when shooting on the legs; which is why lunges are so important in a lower body wrestling training program. The lunge can be performed with a barbell or with dumbbells. If you are using a barbell hold it on your back as you would for a squat. If you are using dumbbells, hold them at your sides. Your feet should be hip width apart throughout the exercise. Begin the lunge by taking an exaggerated step forward with one foot (like you would for your penetration step) while keeping the other foot planted behind you. Once you are in the lunge position, lower your hips until the knee of the trail leg lightly touches the ground. Concentrate on lowering your hips to touch your knee instead of driving the knee of the lead leg forward. Be sure to keep your upper body tight so the movement is controlled when your knee touches- your knee should not slam against the ground. Drive your lead foot into the ground to power you back to a standing position. It should only take one smooth step to return to the standing position, if it takes more, lower the weight.

Romanian Deadlifts

The Romanian deadlift is a great way to strengthen your hamstrings, glutes, and lower back. It is one of the most effective ways to train your hip extenders (the muscles that help you stand up, return an opponent to the mat, lift an opponent to finish a shot, and sprawl). Begin by holding the bar at the lock out position of a deadlift. Your feet should be underneath your hips with toes pointed forward and your grip should be outside of your legs in a position that will prevent your arms from driving your knees together at any time during the movement. Keep your chest up and back flat throughout the movement. Start with a slight bend your knees and keep them locked in this position throughout the exercise. Just like the squat, initiate the movement by pushing your hips back and begin to slide the bar down your quads and shins. Keep lowering the bar while maintaining a tight core until you feel a strong stretch in your hamstrings. Although this movement is completely dependent upon hamstring flexibility, all of my wrestlers can lower the bar down to their mid-shin. Once you reach the bottom, bring your hips back through and stand back up.

Milk Is Good – Milk Is Bad

There seems to be so much confusion out there about the human consumption of cows milk. Some say it is good for you, others say it is bad for you. So what is really the right answer for your health in relation to milk? Who is right?

Both sides of the argument are right. Did that clear it all up for you? No?

Well, lets go into more detail. It really depends on whether you are talking about store bought milk that is pasteurized and homogenized or fresh raw milk. Unfortunately if you are looking for scientific proof one way or the other there isn’t much of it available for fresh raw milk. Most studies done on milk have only used the pasteurized and homogenized milk that we find in most of our grocery stores today.
Once the dairy industry discovered that homogenizing and pasteurizing milk led to longer shelf life and more available sales, they jumped whole heartedly on that band wagon. Having done so they even turned against fresh raw milk. That was mostly because the fresh milk tasted so much better it was cutting into sales. So they tried to vilify raw milk as containing bacteria (which it does). In time they succeeded so well that they even got the sale of raw milk banned in most places. Therefore there are very few milk studies that are done on raw milk.

Milk has many beneficial health promoting substances in it. Protein for building the body, calcium for building bones, vitamins, good forms of saturated fats for building healthy cells and helping to break down unwanted fat, and many others. Hence the slogan, “It does a body good.”

However, in reality that only applies to fresh raw milk. Here is why:

Pasteurization

Pasteurization is the process of heating milk with the intent to kill bacteria. What’s wrong with that?

Well when you heat milk it really takes a turn for the worst. Heat kills all bacteria eventually if you use high enough heat for long enough. The typical pasteurization method kills both good and bad bacteria in the milk. Raw milk contains lots of beneficial bacteria that is very good for digestion as well as enzymes that are healthy for the whole body. Heat kills not only bacteria but also the enzymes and the vitamins. That is why milk sold in your grocery store has to have added vitamins A and D. It is a feeble attempt to make up for what was destroyed using artificial means.

The problem is that the typical pasteurization method kills pretty much all of the good bacteria, but doesn’t kill all of the bad bacteria. The good bacteria in raw milk will actually keep the bad bacteria in check. That is why investigators have found very dirty facilities serving raw milk without any health problems caused for those drinking the milk. On the other hand pasteurized milk with all the good bacteria destroyed has often been the cause of food poisoning. The bad bacteria is allowed to grow unchecked. Now and then you will see in the news stories about raw milk causing food poisoning, but none of them (not one) have every been verified. However there are hundreds of thousands of verified poisonings from pasteurized milk.

There is another problem with heating milk. One of the arguments that anti-milk people make is that milk contains casein (a protein) that is what they make glue out of. I have often wondered if those same people also avoid potatoes and rice and many other grains that you can also make glue out of.

Well, anyway, when you heat milk the casein actually causes a binding effect so that two of the major benefits for which you are drinking milk (protein and calcium) are bound together and become mostly useless to the human body. That’s correct, most of the protein and calcium becomes unusable to the body.

Homogenization

Homogenization is a process where by they force milk through a membrane, sort of a sieve with microscopic holes. This process causes the fat globules to be broken down to a microscopic size so that they no longer separate from the rest of the milk. This keeps the cream from separating.

Unfortunately there is a nasty little side effect of this process. The fat globules are now small enough to actually penetrate the stomach lining as if they were a nutrient and enter the bloodstream. Each little fat globule also carries with it a resin or acid coating. This is perhaps the biggest problem with homogenized milk. There are excess free-radicals in your bloodstream that cause minor scarring and tearing of the sides of the vessels and arteries. The acid from these little fat globules eats away at these little cuts and opens them wider causing more sever damage. These sore spots are then even bigger targets for more free-radical damage. The body reacts to this danger by trying to patch up the wounds. The patching material it uses is what we call cholesterol. As more and more of this patching goes on, the arteries begin to become clogged by this build up of patching material. Stroke or heart attack is the result of this continued build up.

Some doctors even think that pasteurized homogenized milk may well be the major cause of heart problems in our modern world. Heart problems went from being almost nonexistent in the days before homogenization to now being one of the biggest threats to health in our modern world. There are of course other causes for stroke and heart disease, but believe it or not this is a big one.

Raw milk on the other hand avoids all these problems and provides good nutrition. Of course you do need to find a source of milk that is from cattle that are free from artificial hormones and anti-bacterial chemicals. The best source is from free ranging grass fed cows. Of course the grass should be grown organically.

If you can find this kind of milk it is a nearly perfect food. Some doctors have actually used milk as their preferred healing diet for almost any ailment.

One other interesting note. Lactose intolerance is a problem for many people. But generally only with pasteurized milk because the enzymes that break down the lactose have been destroyed. Most lactose intolerant individuals can drink raw milk from good sources without any problem. The raw milk contains the enzymes necessary to digest the lactose. Of course if you are lactose intolerant you should only try raw milk in vary small doses until you are sure it is safe for you.

So if we drink milk as nature made it it can be a great boost to a healthy lifestyle. If you drink milk that has been processed (pasteurized and homogenized) you may be doing more harm than good.

Health really isn’t all that complicated.

Just eat a high quality natural foods diet, exercise, drink plenty of good clean water, make sure you get fiber (whole raw foods), get plenty of sleep, breath deeply and have a gratitude attitude.

Your body will take care of you, if you take care of it.
